OVERVIEW AND CHALLENGE

Manitou Group, a global leader in handling, personnel lifting and earthmoving equipment, opened a new 18,000 m² rough-terrain aerial platform production unit in Candé. In operation since the end of 2021, the plant was created to increase production capacity in response to strong demand from the European and North American markets.

The plant includes two automated production lines, a test centre and logistics facilities. SERE Maintenance had to provide lifting equipment adapted to the factory’s layout and the technical and safety requirements of the two aerial platform assembly lines. This included enabling movement between production lines, safely bypassing an office area and ensuring that the lines could only start when the hoists were in a safe position.

As a long-standing service provider to Manitou Group, SERE Maintenance was already familiar with the group’s requirements and constraints. Based on the quality of its services and products, Manitou Group extended the collaboration to the new site.

“We are pleased to have met our customer's technical requirements. We were well aware of the demands and constraints of Manitou Group, with whom we have worked for many years. We completed the order in just 5 months, and the production unit was ready for operation in November 2021.”

Ludovic Mathys, CEO of SERE Maintenance

SOLUTION

After studying Manitou Group’s requirements for two complete aerial platform assembly lines, SERE Maintenance designed and manufactured 15 overhead travelling cranes equipped with Verlinde Eurobloc VM electric wire rope hoists. The cranes have capacities ranging from 1.6 to 4 tonnes and were customized to match the factory’s ergonomics.

One crane was extended across two bays to enable movement from one production line to another. Another was designed so that its hoist hook could safely bypass an office area. The cranes above the assembly lines include an electrical feedback system in the feeder shaft, preventing the lines from starting until the hoists are in a safe position.

All 15 cranes are radio controlled. Their cable-chain hoist power lines minimize the risk of snagging and prevent damage to the power lines. The complete order was delivered in five months, enabling the production unit to be ready for operation in November 2021.

“The industrial equipment proposed by Sere Maintenance corresponds perfectly to the level of performance we expected for our new plant. These hoists ensure optimum safety for all our teams and are adapted to the dimensions of our site. Working with local partners is also very important to us in order to facilitate exchanges throughout the project...”
